Al Wasl Plaza: The Heart of Expo City Dubai
Al Wasl Plaza is a central landmark within Expo City Dubai, designed as a vibrant hub that connects the three thematic districts: Opportunity, Sustainability, and Mobility. Spanning 150 metres in diameter, the plaza serves as a gathering place that embodies the spirit of connection and collaboration.
The plaza features a striking 65-metre-high domed trellis inspired by the Expo 2020 logo. This translucent dome functions as a 360-degree projection surface, visible both inside and outside, creating an immersive experience for visitors. The design incorporates temperature regulation techniques to ensure comfort beneath the trellis.
Al Wasl Plaza offers a variety of amenities including restaurants, fountains, and parks, making it a dynamic space for events and social interaction. With seven entrances and exits, it links key areas such as the Dubai Metro and the UAE Pavilion, enhancing accessibility throughout the site.
Originally completed in 2021, the plaza played a central role during Expo 2020 Dubai and continues to be a focal point for the area’s development. Surrounding buildings are planned for conversion into hotels and offices, supporting the mixed-use legacy of Expo City Dubai. The plaza is designed to accommodate events of up to 10,000 people, reinforcing its importance in Dubai’s vibrant events scene.
