Dubai Wholesale City is a large-scale masterplanned hub for wholesale trade launched in March 2016. Designed as an integrated destination for global wholesale activity, the project occupies land adjacent to Dubai South and Al Maktoum International Airport. It is planned as a purpose-built complex of specialised trading parks, exhibition facilities and logistics infrastructure, with dedicated boulevards and country pavilions linking air and sea gateways for international cargo flows.
Dubai Wholesale City is conceived as a single-location wholesale ecosystem combining specialised commercial parks, an international trade exhibition facility and a large e-commerce wholesale platform. The development covers 550 million square feet and sits adjacent to Dubai South, close to Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port.
The nearest Dubai Metro Red Line station is around 13.6 km away and is not within walking distance. Approximate driving times include 44 minutes to Dubai Mall, 36 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 41 minutes to Burj Al Arab and 37 minutes to The Walk at JBR. Dubai International Airport is about a minute away by car, while Al Maktoum International Airport is around 24 minutes away. Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port are also positioned as strategic gateways for cargo and shipping.
The masterplan divides the city into specialised zones and boulevards for wholesale sectors including food, construction materials, electrical appliances, electronics, furniture and decor, machinery and equipment, wood, vehicles and spare parts, and textiles and clothing. Country Pavilions are planned as commercial centres and malls featuring products from India, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Australia, China, South Korea and Germany.
Supporting infrastructure includes high-capacity roads, warehousing and storage facilities with cooling capacity where required, as well as services for business-to-business trade and exhibitions. The development includes an international trade exhibition facility linking buyers and suppliers, alongside a major regional e-commerce wholesale platform.
Enabling and excavation works began in November 2016 after Port Saeed Transport and Building Contracting Company received the enabling works contract. Dubai Food Park was announced in July 2017. In February 2018, UAE wholesale operator Jaleel Holdings committed Dh100 million to a cash and carry facility spanning 300,000 square feet and accommodating more than 250 employees, with retail, storage and cooling facilities. In March 2018, the project announced a Dh300 million central logistics hub in partnership with LuLu Group Intern.
Dubai Wholesale City is intended to host thousands of wholesale traders and increase the UAE’s participation in global wholesale markets. The commercial community is expected to support demand for logistics, financial services, aviation-related services, hospitality and business tourism. The project complements Dubai’s specialised business clusters, including Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, which host thousands of companies and tens of thousands of professionals.
The development is designed with road networks, bulk warehousing, storage and cooling capacity, and integrated support services for wholesale operators. Its large-scale e-commerce platform focuses on wholesale transactions, extending activity beyond physical trade floors and exhibition halls. The international business-to-business exhibition facility connects global buyers with suppliers based in the complex.
Dubai Wholesale City is intended for wholesale traders, distributors and logistics operators working at scale or seeking direct access to international supply chains. It also serves logistics providers, cold-chain and warehousing operators, trade exhibition organisers, and businesses providing finance, insurance and other support services. National and international retail and sourcing businesses can use the Country Pavilions and exhibition infrastructure.
Dubai Wholesale City was launched in March 2016, with enabling and excavation works beginning in November 2016.
