Port Rashid Area Guide
Port Rashid, located in Bur Dubai, is a historic deep-water port that has played a key role in Dubai’s development as a major trade hub. Established in the early 1970s, the port was designed to accommodate growing maritime trade and replace the traditional anchorage system where ships unloaded cargo via barges.
The port was officially opened in 1972, featuring multiple berths constructed on reclaimed land using locally sourced rock, which significantly reduced construction costs. Over time, Port Rashid expanded to include up to fifteen berths, allowing simultaneous unloading of numerous vessels.
Strategically positioned, Port Rashid offers convenient access to key Dubai landmarks: it is approximately a 23-minute drive to Dubai Mall, 35 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 33 minutes to Burj Al Arab, and 38 minutes to The Walk at JBR. The Dubai International Airport is about 24 minutes away, while Al Maktoum International Airport is roughly 59 minutes by car.
Port Rashid remains an important maritime and commercial area within Bur Dubai, supporting both cargo operations and contributing to the city’s international trade activities.
