Jebel Ali Wetland Sanctuary: A Natural Haven in Dubai
Jebel Ali Wetland Sanctuary is one of Dubai’s last remaining undeveloped natural areas, offering a unique habitat for diverse wildlife. This sanctuary is home to 124 bird species and 147 fish species, including notable marine life such as the orange-spotted grouper, mottled eagle ray, Arabian carpet shark, whale shark, and black-tipped reef shark.
The sanctuary also supports various turtle species, including the green turtle and the endangered hawksbill turtle. Its waters contain over 30 types of coral, providing a rich ecosystem for marine mammals like the dugong dolphin.
In October 2018, Jebel Ali Wetland Sanctuary was recognized internationally when it was added to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, highlighting its critical role as a wildlife habitat.
