Palm Jumeirah: Dubai’s Iconic Man-Made Island
Palm Jumeirah is the world’s largest land reclamation project, shaped like a palm tree with fourteen fronds lined by beachfront villas and houses. The central trunk hosts apartment buildings, retail outlets, hotels, marinas, spas, and a dedicated monorail system.
Constructed using over five million boulders and sand without concrete or steel, the island is surrounded by an 11-kilometer breakwater rising two meters above sea level. The entire island and breakwater were completed in just two years, followed by another two years to develop around 4,500 residential units and commercial properties.
The eastern side of the trunk features twenty Shoreline Apartment buildings, offering approximately 2,500 luxury apartments of various sizes. At the trunk’s end lies the Village Centre, home to an additional 1,000 apartments. The fronds themselves host around 2,000 villas and houses, attracting residents seeking an exclusive waterfront lifestyle.
Despite being entirely man-made, Palm Jumeirah blends seamlessly with its surroundings, providing a natural island experience with luxury living, leisure, and entertainment options in Dubai.
